Default Guitar Tex Featured in San Antonio Newspaper

In the steady drone of bad news, it's always refreshing when the good guys get a break. My routine haunt, Guitar Tex, was just featured in the San Antonio Express-News.

    Newspaper Article on Guitar Tex

He told me about it (I don't take the paper) while I was in there today picking my Martin after getting the action adjusted. He still has that Bighorn Plus I recently reviewed and he's added a new red spruce topped Bitterroot F.

It is a very different mando from the Bighorn. It's a mando more defined by the treble strings. Oh, it still has some Weber warmth but I think it is a little more suited for people that like that forceful Gibson chop.

Thanks for posting the article about Mark, he is deserving I will get by there Tues. and get some strings .
That will give me a good reason to check out the new BF Weber.

Will be by there Tuesday also while I'm in SA. Have to get the D-28 looked at after falling through a stage wall(long story). As I've said before this is a great shop and Mark puts his heart and soul into it. Personal service at its finest and great instruments. I became a proud Weber owner there and several other instruments including a nice banjo but please don't hold that against me. JJ

The Donnie Pack mentioned in the article runs the Dellview Music School two blocks (really!) from my house. He has given lessons to half the guitar players in San Antonio. And that is a LOT of guitar players.

So, after finishing some chores around the Ranch I head to the big city to see the Weber Bighorn plus and get me some D'Addario J74s.
I had a good visit with Mark and played the BH + it really is nice a Weber just might be on my short list.
It definetly had volume/tone and playability and like a Weber the fit and finish was outstanding, just gotta figure out a way to sneak it in to the house and then some place to hide it.
    good luck

Cool article. Have never heard anything but good things about Guitar Tex. I've driven by the shop a couple of times while in SA but never gone in...should be a bit embarassed about that, but I've got Fiddlers Green here in Austin. If you are in San Antonio and have the time, come up to Austin and visit Fiddlers Green as well. Might even squeeze in a tour of Tom Ellis' shop and the Collings factory as well.
Guitar Tex, Collings, Ellis, Fiddlers...a really nice day trip.

Oh Capt, I stop by Fiddler's most any time I visit Austin. No one shop can have everything of interest. We've gone to some of their mandolin seminars. Don't deprive yourself of the pleasure.

We're really lucky in this part of Texas. We have two good mandolin shops in pretty close proximity.

I made the trip to Fiddlers Green recently, I really liked the hospitality there, and their inventory was second to none, had a really nice Ellis F style while I was there among several collings etc, soon as we walked in the lady said hi and play anything you want, did'nt buy an instrument but we did leave with some picks a couple arm rests and strings.
Where are y'all jammin now that Artz is shut down Llano ?
