I love the neck on my MF5 and it leads in me in many directions, keeps me playing all day. This is not a best of what builders from Brand X to Gilchist build in tone, design, quility and fit or an A or F thing. Just what necks rings you chimes and keep you fingers on the frets???

I like the Breedlove neck too.
And I am in the process of acquiring a Phoenix--for a lot of reasons but especially for the neck.

Karen, you are going to love the Phoenix neck.
It is at least equally as comfortable for me as a Breedlove neck (which so far has been my favourite) and maybe even more comfortable. I don't have a Breedlove anymore to A/B it.
I recently got a Neoclassical and the overall playability is great.
Easily the easiest playing mando I have ever had or played.

I have loved every Phoenix I've ever had the chance to try... and I'm expecting my new (previously owned) Neoclassical to be no exception. I won't get it until the end of this month...

Really, I think neck feel is a matter of individual preference. #longer or shorter (in terms of where the body join is), u-shaped or v-shaped, chunky or slender...

it's not that one is right or wrong... more a matter of how it suits your hand and playing style. I just sold an Old Wave to finance that Phoenix...loved the tone to pieces, but the shorter, chunky neck was just not quite right for me.

Probably the most unique neck I've encountered was Spira's. asymmetrical with a kind of ridge for your thumb to rest on and follow down the neck. very cool.

Heiden and Collings necks are for me the best I've played so far.

    Thumbs up

I like the Collings necks too. The semi V that Andrew Mowry uses is very comfortable as well. Lp

I love the playability of my Phoenix (congrats KE)...all the Collings mandos I've played have had very pronounced "V" shaped necks, which felt just fine to me but I could see how some might not care for them.

I, too, like the Collings neck. The Breedlove felt great, when I had my Spirit. I also like the Phoenix neck. However, the best neck I've played is a '94 Flatiron. I had Sound to Earth reshape the neck for my Bitteroot to the '94 Flatiron specs (hey, I figured they'd know just how to do it), and it is dang close. My Fern that's being built right now will also have this same neck. The cool thing is, they call it the "Briggs" neck (my last name).

I'll also plug for the neck of an Elliot Stelling. It was sort of like the Breedlove, but more Loarish. I emailed Ward and he said he was going for a good Loar replica neck, obviously with some tweaks.
