A-100 was my starter mando. Mine sure played easy but i'm pretty sure it is laminate top and back. I think its made in Korea. I still carry it in my construction truck and play it at lunch breaks. Good luck. Don

Here's a picture of my old A-100, which as far as I could tell was spruce top, birds-eye maple back and sides and wooden binding. Marked hand-made and no serial number (Alvarez serial numbers were on a flimsy sticker, which is often lost.

    Hope this helps.

I know the new korea ones are all lam. but not sure on this one. it is on evil-bay
F-D if you would do a alvarez mandolin search on e-bay it has a case very similar to yours, take a look and tell me what you think. it still has a few days on the chopping block.

    <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-ALVAREZ-A-100-MANDOLIN-MADE-IN-JAPAN-NICE-L-K_W0QQitemZ280109863309QQihZ018QQcateg
oryZ10179QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem" target="_blank">THIS</a> being the auction in question. Looks nice, but somewhat different from mine. The binding looks white and not sure about the back wood. I'd be interested in a photo of the back.

As the price stands now, heck I'll buy it - ha. It could go above $200.00 (maybe). I sold mine for more than that, 'cause I was in no hurry and it was a nice mandolin (I liked playing it).

    Good luck.
