I have not had great success with instruction via the dvd so I'm a little hesitant to purchase another. Technique via dvd looks like a good fit. Any feedback yet?

I got mine a day or so ago so I've only had a chance to walk through quickly but it looks to be exactly what you'd expect from John ... extremely well thought out containing material that is essential for developing good tone and technique, all presented in a very clear and concise way.
I've purchased just about everything John has ever put out telling myself that the reason I'm making the purchase is to pick up some new teaching ideas for my own students (and thats true) but I'd be flat out lying if I said that I didn't get a lot out them for myself as well.
John is the man. Go buy the DVD!!!!!!!

Bluegrass ... "It's Folk Music With An Overbite" (Robert Shelton)
Ok, I got mine the other day and I have been absent from the Cafe because of it. I watched the pick part at least a dozen times, great stuff. All I can really say is go buy this freeking DVD today. If you have any of John's stuff, you already know this tho. It's a must have. Are you a beginner? Great, I wish this came out back when I started playing. Are you an expert? Are you sure? You should check it out anyways. Really. You're not *that* good.
One suggestion, if you have ###### computer speakers (most of us do unless you're an audiophile or a gamer) make sure you watch it a few times on a TV or system with great sound. Some of the nuances John talks about are there but you can really hear them on a good system.
One more suggestion, get this DVD and watch it. Again. ...and again.
It's really a great discussion on all the little things that we sometimes don't even think of when we pick up a mando. I know I really practice some bad habits when I'm just noodlin'. I'm sure I'll watch this many a more times to come, great stuff John!
I'm still not great or even good by most standards, but this definitely helped me!![]()
The camera work is good too. The only thing the DVD doesn't do is reach out and slap you in the head when you do something wrong...
do good things
Wow, thanks guys!
