As a follow-up to my Michael Kelly question, what (in everyone's humble opinion) would be the best lefty mando I could find under $1000?

I hate to sound like a broken record but I am loving my Eastman 505.I also would recommend a Mid-Mo if you want that flat-top,round hole sound. You could probably get 1 of each for the $1000 used if you weren't a lefty.

    Ed,

How do you define "best"? For me it would be "best" sound and "best" player, not "best" looking. If we agree on that, then for under $1K the answer is going to be an A style. Generally speaking you will spend 40% nore for an F style of equal quality. At under $1K you can get an Eastman F or oval hole, a Big Muddy oval hole(formerly Mid-Mo) or have a Glenn or Morris made for you and you will have some money left over.

I do know where you can buy an Eastman 815 (F style F hole) new for about $1,250.00. NFI but I've played it and it ain't bad.
