Does anyone know how to read the serial numbers on a Hutto mandolin? I found one I'm looking at (to buy) but don't know what number it is, unless I just overlooked the obvious.

..the last Hutto I seen for sale was around $6500...worth every penny in my book. To me the Lost and Found sound was Dempsey Youngs Hutto plus his mastery of the instrument...not to take away from the other members of course.. If I was the mando player with L&F I would try and get my hands on that mando if for nothing else...nostalgia...Alan Mills should insist on it...that mando has been there from day one.

I've seen a few here and there that look like 100 miles of bad road. This one looks and sounds great. I just haven't been able to pull the trigger yet. I'm also looking at a Stanley and then there's the one I really want. A 2003 MM, which is probably the best sounding mando I've ever had in my hands. Sounded better than the 2 DMMs I looked at. Very exceptional mando, just too much cash for as much as I play anymore. Getting it would just have to do with the fact that it's (for me) the one I've always looked for.

Scotty, that is the mando that got me started thinking about getting a hutto. I'm sure that there are some who don't care for them but most love the ones they own.

Shayne, I'll let you know if I don't buy it...

I did read that you had one, I just didn't know if you still had it. When I decided to step up I didn't realize how tough it would be to decide on which one. But I do have it narrowed down to a few. By the way that stanley is in Ga. I'm sure just about everyone on the board has seen it, but hey you never know where it will end up...

Danny, I own a 1983 Hutto that He built for me. John told me that mine was #52. I will take a look at the numbers on the label and send them to you.I dont know what his system would mean. I love this instrument and the sound/service it has always given me. You cannot go wrong by getting one. PS that last three that I saw for sale were being offered at between 6500.00 to 9800.00 dollars

Thanks, I appreciate it. I'm mainly curious as to which number it is. If my guess is right it might be #32.

    Danny,
The serial number is 83528. John signed and dated it on 10/23/83...
