Sing out

Hi all!

I just subscribed to Sing Out, and I'm anxiously awaiting the first copy (which will probably take a few weeks to come to this side of the ocean

)

Are there any other subscribers here?

I haven't seen a Sing Out since the 60's when I was deep into Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, and the whole folk scene. Let us know how you like it; I might need to subscribe and bring back the old days. #

First, let me point out that these are 60's memories. Events depicted here are thought real, but may have been chemically altered.

Sing Out is a folk magazine that, at least in the 60's had a bit of a radical bent. It contained words and music to traditional songs as well as new songs by folks like Pete Seeger, Tom Paxton, Bob Dylan and others. It would also have articles about music. At the time I would go to Sherman's Bookstore in Baltimore, where you could also get peace buttons, Hendrix posters, The Quotations of Chairman Mao, Lord of the Rings books, as well as verbal abuse from old Abe Sherman, the owner and resident character.

I'd be interested to see what Sing Out is like. I wasn't aware that it was still around.

Well, I'm not a subscriber to SIng Out! ... and I just plain *wasn't* in the 60's ... but, I'm a big fan of their songbook, Rise Up Singing. It is a great resource that travels with me often.

I have the Rise Up Singing Book also and suscribed to Sing Out for a couple of years, but moving about as much as I did, I let the suscription run out.

Sing Out is a great little resource for folkie music. Good articles about present and past. Often will have good histories of songs or tunes. Fun to read, it also usually has several songs notated with lyrics each month, or is it every other month, I can't remember.

You should enjoy it!!! I did!!!!

i saw on the site musical that you can get a whole bunch of free stuff to sign up for sing out subscription. seriously considering it. do they ever have any mando content (not that it is my only priority, but it would certainly push me a bit)?

I read and enjoy it on a regular basis. One nice feature is that when you suscribe you can order a CD with the songs that are printed in each issue. They are geared more toward folk and world music but it's a great place to find new artists and material.

I look into it from time to time. I haven't seen much in there for a few years. There was an interview with Grisman in there once with tab for Sambino and I think that Niles H. used to write the occasional article for them but not much recently that I've seen.
