I like mandolins.
You did fine --- TC makes a good starter 'zouk. Did you order the bouzouki or the octave mandolin? If it's the bouzouki, it has a long scale, around 25 inches, I believe. At that length, melody playing can be a bit difficult. Have fun and let us know how it goes.

Hi Harry, and congrats on your new pal!
There have been a -lot- of discussions of various aspects of TC instruments here in the last few months, so look back in the CBOM archives, do searches for "Trinity" and "TC" and you'll find a wealth of stuff.
For a start scroll down a bit to the thread called "How can i improve tc bouzouki sound? " started by Groveland, and you'll find a wonderful, comprehensive and well-told account of how to do some simple upgrades that can make a TC a lot more fun to listen to and play.
Again, welcome!

My TC bouzouki has a 26 3/8" scale. #A long guitar scale would be 25 1/2". #For the price, it can't be beat.
I had sound clips out there, but pulled them cuz I figure my playing can't do it justice. #You will have a lot of fun!
welcome to the TC club. I just joined myself, and its a ton of fun. but I've had intonation issues (g string, 2nd fret especially) so I'm getting the bridge and nut replaced. you may want to consider such options yourself if needed. enjoy!

I've been looking at an older TC octave. Any notable differences between the current build and the Japanese build?
Presently, I'm considering a Gold Tone OM - 800. I've been told (by a reputable dealer) that the Gold Tone compares favourably with the Trinity College AND is several $100s less expensive.
Anyone able to speak from experience on how TC and GT compare?
scgc - I played a Gold Tone OM in a store about a year ago... similar build to the TC, etc. However, the one I played was VERY heavily finished, MUCH more so that any TC's I've encountered... practically coated in plastic... which made it very heavy, probably durable, but I look for good woods that are free to vibrate, and I didn't care for it. This may or may not matter to you... just thought I"d share my observations.

I've played a couple of Japanese ones and was very impressed. From my limited sample, I'd buy an older Japanese one over a newer one any day.Originally Posted by (Jerry Byers @ Feb. 01 2007, 10:52)

Yeah, from the ones I've known, I think I'd choose an older one, too, given that it's in good condition. Not particularly for the place of mfr (TCs seem remarkably consistent), but that they do respond positively to playing time, and I like that.

I have an older MIJ mandola and newer MIC OM. Both are good.
