Hi, my name is Greg Nelson and I am a stringed instrument Junky. I have been building guitars for the last several years and just now am completing an F5 for my Daughter. She wanted it RED and I accomodated.

Scratch built using Siminoff's book as a starting point, but then I just had to do some things my own way. I strung it up last week in the white to see how she sounded. Good thing I did because I discovered that I really needed to change the neck shape a bit. Way too chunky.

The binding is bloodwood with fiber paper purflings. I used a piece of burl for the peg head veneer and the inlay is an anchor of my daughter's design made from sheet brass. Ebony fret board (flat) with bloodwood binding as well. Maple body and a spruce top.

Let me know what you think. I think I'll be spending a little time here from now on.

That looks like great work, Greg. Thanks for posting it. Is this the mando that's shown in your post about carving the top?

Same one. I documented this build at luthierforum.com and that is why I had the pictures so fast. I started out thinking I would build two and wound up just building the one. These are hard!

Very nice, especially for your first mando. I hope your daughter realizes what a treasure she is receiving.

Nice work, Greg. Wood binding on your first F5 is a major undertaking, as I'm sure you discovered.

Wood binding on any F-5 is a lot of work.

Yes indeed, but when it is a labor of love what's a little more effort and a few more pieces of exotic kindling to light my winter fire?
