Hello. I'm curious if there are any people willing to give a few mandolin lessons to an advanced beginner (2 years) in the Eugene. Interested mostly in theory and old time music. Also play a little gypsy jazz.

I know of a Bluegrass jam at Sam Bonds, are there any old time jams in the area? Or people that live in Eugene that might want to car pool to one nearby?

    Thanks,
    Travis

    Hey-

I used to live in Eugene and man do I miss Sam Bond's. The beer, the people, and the jam. That's the heart of Eugene for me.

There's a guy named Greg Biller who, when I was there, would be the person to go to to learn jazzy stuff from on the mandolin. He plays with a band called the Leftovers who do a lot of Western Swing and rarely play out. But they are often at the BG jams. Biller used to play a f4 style. Also, the lead singer Eric is there a lot. He plays fiddle and sings with a great Tommy Duncan style voice.

    Best,
    Sam

I live in Roseburg and play with a gypsy jazz/django style group, HotQua String Band. The 3rd Sunday of the month there is a bluegrass jam outside of Roseburg in Umpqua which can be fun.

I give lessons in Roseburg and might be able to work something out. I could definatly help with some theory and gypsy swing, jazz and other other similar stuff.
