being Christmas....I thought an update was in order. almost 3 months into my stroke survival..........I am now driving and can fully dress myself........this is so far from where I was. hope to get more theropy in Jan for the left arm/hand sos I can go back to work, and hopefully pick again. the hardest part is watching our weekly jams, which continue as normal, but the folks that come are great friends, one even bringing me a little lap steel thingy to try, Ijust can't hold the slide very well right now. but I continue to exercise every day and can squeeze a little ball and open and close cothespins, so things are starting to happen...slowly.

Merry CHRISTMAS TO ALL....i'M STILL HERE.

You'll be woodsheddin' with the physio for a while yet, but it'll get easier in 2007. There's truth in the old saying; that which does not kill us only makes us stronger.

If nothing else, battling back from a stroke sure makes one appreciate the prospect of Christmas among family, friends and music, don't it? #Continued success. #You'll be back in the jam circle before you know it!

May your determination and positive attitude make a world of difference in the coming year! I admire both qualities expressed in your note.

    Hey there Dan,

Lately there seems to have been a lot of sad news being reported on the Mandolin Cafe.

I was almost going to take a couple weeks vacation when you appeared and gave me hope that good news can once again appear here on this board.

May God bless you in your recovery!!! #Have a very Blessed & Merry Christmas #

believe in yourself and keep working. a soaring spirit in the face of adversity goes a long way.... driving and dressing are some great independent skills- keep plugging!
    only the best dan!

Dan,,, a guy I know had a really bad stroke a few years ago.
He is a former professional athlete so he knew all about training and therapy and working hard.
His focus was that he wanted to get back to playing golf with his buddies.
Unbelieveably, a few short years later he hit a hole-in-one on the golfcourse.
He has not recovered fully to his pre-stroke condition but if you didn't know him before you wouldn't be able to tell.
He worked hard and did everything that was asked of him in therapy and it paid off for him.
I hope it works the same for you.
    All the best!
