I have seen one of these exactly one in my life, at Dusty Strings (Seattle) for $325 back in 1997.

I had been in the market for an official Dobro mandolin, don't know why I didn't pick up this Del Vecchio, which seemed like a nice little piece.

I believe I have also once seen a Del Vecchio resonator guitar.

Does anyone have any info on these mandos? Google (and years before, AltaVista) have never given me any solid info.

Did I just imagine that I saw a Brazillian resonator mando?

The cones were terrible on the ones I've worked on. About the consistency of throwaway aluminum pie pans from Safeway. It's possible to get better American-made cones that fit. Don Young at National Reso used to have them, not sure if they have the time to provide stuff like this anymore. DelVecchio instruments are pretty sketchy in terms of quality. I do like their aesthetics though.

I couldn't find a single photo of one on the net, but here's a guitar:

I'd like to hear one of those mandos. The tone Chet gets out of his Del Veccio in this video (and 2 or 3 dozen other tracks he recorded with it) is pretty haunting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mj8e9q8AB-Q

I've heard from other fans that the workmanship was very sloppy - and that Chet's and Earl's were heavily modified just to be playable. I've been keen on getting one of the tenors just because Garoto played one, but they are quite rare in the US and I don't fancy doing international commerce.
