I recently bought a mandolin, it's my first instrument and would like to learn greek/italian style mandolin but can't find any books to help me. It would be nice if I could buy the sheet music with a cd if there is any. Anyone have recommendations?

About five titles below yours.
Thanks, I downloaded the casserini tunes and sheet music, it would be nice if I could find something more for beginners too.
You might try Terry Pender's "Italian Mandolin Vol 1" which has a lot of the classics in both tab and standard notation. He tells me Vol 2 is coming... You can find him through Columbia University's website.

Pender's book can be bought at Elderly.
The Columbia website states there are copyright
issues with it. ??

In some correspondence with Terry back in May he mentioned that he was having some problems with his publisher and that the second edition was on hold. He seems like quite a nice guy. I hope things work out for him, as he is a good part of the scene and worthy of support.
Good to at least know his first book is still available. And hopefully someday the second.

For Greek folk music, vkioulaphides has published three compilations of Greek mandolinatas; versions are available for two mandolins and mandolin/guitar duo. I find the mandolin parts do just fine on their own. There's no CD, and it's in regular notation rather than tab, but it's very enjoyable stuff, and not terribly difficult. If you're interested you can PM him. (Look for his posts in the classical section).
I second the recommendation for Victor's Greek mandolinatas. Slight correction: all three are available as mandolin/guitar duos, but only one (the Ionian mandolinata) is available for two mandolins. Also, there's a very nice free MP3 recording of the Ionian mandolinata by three of Alex Timmerman's students, which helps a lot in getting the rhythm figured out. I agree with Bob that the mandolin parts on their own are enjoyable to play in private.
Victor's arrangements are great fun, and not too difficult, but still maybe a bit too advanced for an absolute beginner. There are much easier versions of many Greek songs here, salvaged from a now-defunct web site.

I also highly recommend Victor's Greek publications. Highly quality music and printing at an excellent price.
Martin, thanks for the link to the Greek tunes. Great stuff!

I've really gotten into Alex Avramovici's (who I think is actually Romanian) renditions of Greek folk songs of late. Some great bouzouki playing as well as some occasional mandolin stuff (I think) Think I'll be looking for some tablature of these myself soon.
