I say we all ought to put tape over the names on our headstocks... sure would quell a lot of arguments...

The white tape was used because it was given to him in Sweden when
he thought of using tape to express his feelings and he went with it. #
I think he might have liked the fact that white was even more apparent.

    The reason...?
Well... #that is the issue at hand isn't it?
What are the reasons for Bobby and David?
Are they to be taken as a group or individually?
So many questions when you start to look at it, are there not?

Maybe we should all start a movement using clear tape!

Did all this tape come about as a result of the advent of the Gibson signature models, with some of the famous players getting a model and some not?
    Keep it acoustic.

I think a cool inlay would be like the old hangman game...You could have something like this

    G _ _ S _ N
with a gallows inlay....complete with a head and maybe a torso and arm
I never wanted them all, Just the ones I wanted.....

That'd be my guess. But I do hear Gibson is secretly working on Frank Wakefield signature model under the code name "SHAKE 'N BAKE".

I don't get it either. You mean the instrument is good enough to continue to play but the name on the head stock is not?

I suppose white tape on the peghead is less harmful than painting it red, or baking it in an oven.

On second thought: perhaps a "Master Chef Model"?

More completely gratuitous, and no doubt erroneous and completely un-informed musings: Frank is obviously worthy of a signature model, but to me he is closely identified with a Loar, and my understanding from various posts by Charlie and Joe is the Master Model is, at least now, not the subject of any variations like the Fern line is. With Ferns, you can have yer Diet Coke, Caffeine Free Coke, or Vanilla Coke, but with Master Models (absent any custom jobs) it is strictly one flavor. I guess then you're looking at a free Master Model as a nod to his contribtion to mando-dom, but if you already have a Loar that has been precision-baked to achieve a pefect bluegrass tone, why bother?

That tape looks photoshopped to me. It's too white, but then so is his bandana so maybe it is tape. I need to go home.:O
