I have yet to find a BAD Doyle Lawson CD. I think you will be safe with anything made in the last 10 years....or 20....or 30 years. The Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver DVD "Through the Years" is also certainly worth the $20.

Yes to those, the only drawback is the electric bass on the 1st Quicksilver. I've heard worse, but I still don't like it. YMMV.

And go back and check his work with the CG, some wonderful mandolin, singing and arranging by Doyle. Not to take anything away from what he has done since 1979, but he fit in with that band perfectly. I have a live show on tape of the CG at Montclair State U., his presence is so strong on that.

Bill Yates: What are you gonna pick, James?
    James Bailey: Foggy Mountain Breakdown
Bill: Heck, it's on the first of every banjo book.

You can pick up the "Treasures" DVD for around $10 at WalMart...Some "mighty fine pickin' and a singin."

My favorite Lawson CD is Heaven's Joy Awaits, but it doesn't exactly
    feature his mandolin!

I think some are better than others. Heavenly Treasures is a classic if it's on CD. I think Kept and Protected is Great. Something about the newest one doesn't appeal to me as much. All I've ever heard are Top notch recording and singing.

I have a lot of Doyle's CDs and many are really good. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be My Heart is Yours with the lineup of Russell Moore, Ray Deaton, Jim Mills, Mike Hartgrove and Doyle.
