Instrument Stand

Sorry if this topic has already been discussed but I performed a couple searches in the Cafe and came up empty. Need input on make, style, etc. of a instrument stand to temporarily hold my mando.

I use a violin stand, can't remember the brand, but it's perfect. Maybe that would be easier to find...

Buy a hercules electric guitar stand - very portable and reasonably priced - check ebay or local guitar store

I have a bunch of these I use. They are easy to adjust to almost any instrument size/type, including my ukulele. Cheap but sturdy.

are they safe? i see that the base seems secure, but there doesn't appear to be anything to hold up the neck and keep it from slipping off with a slight knock or bump.

That was a concern for me at first, but they seem to be quite secure. I have yet to have an instrument fall out of one, and that includes the extremely round banjo. Very convenient to carry to gigs as well. On the other hand, Carol won't trust her Blueridge guitar in one, she insisits on the neck rest.

I use a Hamilton that works great for my mandolin and guitar. They are a bit pricey I guess at a bit over $30 but I wouldnt trade mine.

I use the ultra for traveling with, easy to set up for both guitar and mando. I have a couple of other different type stands but like the ultra's best.

I do have one simliar to the ultra two and there is very little danger of instruments falling over unless you have them near pathways.

I use a Meisel violin stand $21 at Elderly, works great and folds up compactly to fit in the gig bag.

I like the Ultimate stand because it adjusts for everything I use from electric bass to mandolin. The angled headstock grip supports any neck width, and it's very stable. Yorkville markets a cool little fiddle/mandolin stand similar to one mentioned above. I bought one for a friend but ended up keeping it.

I've made a few hardwood stands over the years but usually give them away eventually because collapsable ones are so much handier.

I have two solutions I like:
The Comfort Cradle CC-04 violin/mando holder attaches to a music or mic stand, has no "footprint," so assuming you have a stable stand, it keeps it off the floor and out of the way. Street price $11.75 +/-
The Ingles SA20 "Sho-all" violin stand is quite stable, low center of gravity, and aesthetically pleasing. Street price $18.50 +/-

Comfort Cradle is also marketed as String swing. It can be ordered as a Mic/music stand mount or as a wall mounted device. Pretty inexpensive and darned good.

Be careful with them if they have rubber pads on them, I got a Meisel for my son, he left his Phoenix on it overnight and there were finish blemishes on it the next day. Some finishes and polymers are definitely not compatible.
