Does anyone have a suggestion on a good beginner DVD to learn how to play mandolin (bluegrass preferably)? I currently have the Murphy Henry DVD which is great, but am looking for another recommended title. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Folk Of The Wood (.com) has a plethera of material. I ordered a beginners DVD that helped. I also found there, a 3-CD & Tablature book for the standards you would hear at a Jam session that helped.....get hold of "Transcribe" and shell out the fourty bucks to own it......you can slow down any tune, on pitch, making it MUCH easier to learn.

I've just started with this one, available from a New York shop called Custom Pearl Inlay:

So far, so good - in fact, it seems a pretty righteous deal for the 15 bucks they ask for it. All that it requires me to do is actually buckle down and work at it.

    Peace - Jon

I've got one from some guy named R. Mccoury and like it. It's a bit advanced but well worth owning even for a beginner.

Just got "Butch Baldassari's Bluegrass Mandolin Workshop" DVD yesterday and watched through it. I like it because he goes right to the material without alot of beginning basic stuff. This is a good DVD for someone who can play a few fiddle tunes, knows some basic BG chop(closed) chords and wants to get better at bluegrass mandolin playing.

Now its time for me to start working through the material.

BTW: My own mandolin background includes playing mandolin for almost 3 years, play alot of fiddle tunes (go to OT fiddle jams biweekly), and just joined a local bluegrass society with a little BG jamming this year. I've also played in a mandolin ensemble (classical, Celtic, Italian) for about a year before dropping out (personality conflict).
