There was a run I was trying to fit into a song using not all the notes of the scale and I wasn't satisfied with how fast I could play it so I decided I needed an exercise for a quick run over a wide range of notes.

I tried taking the Aonzo scale (major scale two octaves up then down, before the last note, slide up 1/2 step and start again) and playing it major pentatonic, 1,2,3,5,6,8, ... Way harder than I thought it would be. Took me many tries just to get the notes right for a couple scales. I know them but when playing, the wrong fingers kept hitting.

Give it a try, it's a workout. Things go much faster and it's harder when you leave notes out. Oh, one thing good about it, your done with your three time up and down the fretboard quicker.

    Did you mean 1,2,3,5,6 ?

That would be a correct major pentatonic.
