I dug out some older video of me playing electric blues guitar and posted it up at YouTube. #Now at the time this video was shot (fall 2002), I'd stopped playing out as an electric guitarist about 3 years prior. #I had returned to acoustic music, but I was back to playing banjo, the instrument of my teens. #I had just started getting back into mandolin when this video was shot. #I hate to sound full of myself, but when I was playing out all the time and focusing on electric, I could burn it up. #I don't think I sound too bad here for not playing regularly for a few years. However, continued neglect of the guitar--in addition to what may be rheumatoid arthiritis--proves a challenge today. I wish I could play as well as I did back then (on any instrument, frankly).

Anycase, for those of you who might have wondered where my blues mandolin approach comes from, it pretty much says it in these videos. #For the mando blues stuff, I really do try to think in terms of electric guitar cause it's so engrained.

That was cool. On the same page there was a video of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Albert King doing "The Sky Is Crying", so you're in good company.

Note: also Paul Butterfield on harp, and incredibly, B.B. King joins in at the end. Yowza! Dig Albert bending those notes at the end.

    Cool!

I saw John Hammond 2 weeks ago, and it put me in a blues groove.

I downloaded Rich del Grosso's CD the other night, and have been enjoying it. Loaned it to a friend, who handed it back to me and said "I don't want to argue, but the mandolin is just not a blues instrument." I just left it at "I disagree. Totally." My brother-in-law loved it, said add it to his birthday list!

Good stuff Jim! You definitley have chops there.

kyblue; your metioning of Rich del Grosso reminded me of my dream last night. In it Rich was a plumber for his day job and he came over my house to fix something. I said you're Rich del Grosso and he said "yeah." Strange stuff...

Must be those late-night snacks. If I dreamt it, i'd be at a concert asking him to fix something at my house, and he would tell me to go...
