I have a Hohner Countryman Octave Mandolin - despite being factory made it's got a superb tone and is lovely to play. However, the lower strings (the G and D) jangle and buzz quite a bit on the frets when I'm playing, and I currently have a piece of folded paper wedged underneath one side of the bridge to raise up the G and D strings to prevent this. Problem is, it makes the bridge slip gradually, so I'm really keen on finding an adustable bridge for an octave mandolin which would be a more sensible solution, but I just can't find one anywhere. Can anyone help?

One offering is: Add veneer or a thin strip of similar of wood to the bottom, and glue it in place
[to the bridge, not the instrument top]

any mandolin intonation off the shelf bridge will be off for a way different scale like octaves ..

so getting one made by a luthier with it on his bench would be proper thing.

Is it a flat top? I had a few custom made by a fellow in France that were made of ebony and bone and were compensated.

We have adjustable octave bridges in either our original or traditional styles: http://soundtoearth.com/products.htm

Both styles of our octave bridges have an "S" shape as seen here: http://soundtoearth.com/inst_ot_sage_2.htm

If your scale length is different than ours, we could send you a bridge with an uncompensated saddle. We would just need to know the current height of your bridge from the top of the saddle to the top of your instrument.

If you are interested please call us at 888-886-7598.
