I have been setting up and repairing guitars and mandos for the last 20 years. I would be glad to take a look at it for you. RobertBartoletti@sbcgolbal.net

I'll second Jim's recommendation of Jim Decava in Stratford, but check with him by phone since he is backlogged these days.
Paul Neri in Clinton does excellent work. 860-669-3351

Another vote for Jim DeCava. He's provided excellent workmanship and service for me for many years.
There's another shop on the Shoreline in Guilford (about 30min from Meriden) called Acoustic Music. #I've never had them do any work but I've been told by those that have that they do very good work. #The only issue is that they sometimes take a while.Acoustic Music
I've had work done on guitars, and played mandolins setup by George Youngblood (i have a guitar with him right now and my mandolin is going for setup as soon as its done), who works with Brian at acousticmusic.org in Guilford, and his quality is excellent. #I have a hard time trusting anyone else with my instruments.

I know this is an old thread, but it's the only place answering the question in the 'cafe, so I'll add my notes: I just had my Gibson A mandolin (1917) refretted with a new bridge fitted by Jim DeCava and he did a beautiful job. I can't believe how much better the instrument sounds. He did impeccable work, quickly, and for a reasonable price. I would bring any string instrument I have to him for any level of repair. Thanks, Jim, I'm very happy!!
(He's located just across the Fairfield border in Bridgeport, CT (near the Taco Loco restaurant)).
