I'm goin up there in a couple of weeks. Are there any local places that have good jam sessions or a good band? I haven't been up there since I got into bluegrass so are there stores and stuff up there just for this kind of music?

Don't know about the jam sessions, etc. but while you are there you need to make a short trip to Friendsville, where you can find Steve Perry at Gianna Violins (www.giannaviolins.com). Great selection of Eastman Mandolins, Fiddles, Guitars, you name it. But call before you go, and ask for DETAILED directions to the shop. The East Tennessee countryside is beautiful, mind you, but by the second hour....

    No financial interest for me.

Visit Smoky Mountain Guitars in Pigeon Forge, they know where the jams are. They also have the finist instrument shop in the area. Also, a great collection of accessories.

    To get directions visit, smokymountainguitars.com

Gianna is not a bg shop, but he usually has lots of Eastman mandolins and several fiddles/violins. IT is a long trip from Pigeon Forge.

There is a free concert at noon at the WDVX studios. 89.9 and 102.9 in Knoxville area. Check out WDVX.COm for more settings in Pigeon Forge.

There is an authorized Gibson dealer in Sevierville. Beleive it is called the Music outlet or something like that right on the main drag, can't miss it, it is a two story stone building just down from the knife works as your headed toward town. They carry a lot of other brands as well. If you go into Gatlinburg a Bluegrass group plays on the weekends outside of the BEST Italian pizzaria across from Ober Gatlinburg. And by the way the Pizza is awesome there.
