    Hello,

I have been playing for about a year now but almost exclusively bluegrass with a little blues occasionally. I have been just working on tab and not much on notation. I have a desire to play a few classical tunes and need help.

Can you recommend some good beginner classical tunes that are in tab and that are relatively easy to learn?

WHat books, dvds, cds, etc. do you recommend?

I would like to be able to play some tunes for friends and family at a family reunion in a few months and know I need to get started. If I play a few fiddle tunes, banjo tunes, bluegrass tunes, and blues tunes, they will be impressed, but if I throw in a couple of classical pieces, they will probably wet their pants.

Thanks in advance for your help

    Denny

There are some 19th century tunes on the site of Jim Garber -

On my homepage I have a weblog about sites with free sheet music, maybe you can find more following my links there (mainly in German, but with short summary in English)

You can get the Mel Bay book of Bach for the mandolin. It has some easy to play tunes that will impress your friends and confound your enemies.

If you are looking for a few pieces to play these are familiar, enjoyable, and easy to finger out. You may be able to find some of these in the Mandolincafe tab section; just remember to open the pieces, for the composers and piece names/numbers are not identified on the main listing.

    Bach - Sleepers Awake
Bach - Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring
    Bach - Minuet in G
Handel - The Harmonious Blacksmith (definately in Mandolincafe tab section)
Handel - Largo, from the opera Xerxes (simple and slow, yet moving to hear in any arrangement)
    King Henry VIII - Greensleeves

You might try some of the intermediate tunes at Mandozine. Tney are in tab and if you have TefView you can view them and here a midi version of the song. Here is a listing of some of the available songs and here is a link to get TefView.

great, thinks for the links...I had used the cite on mandozine for bluegrass and blues but the last time I tried to bring up classical, nothing showed up...but this time I downloaded 83 files. I don't know why it didn't work the last time but this time it worked like a charm.

    Thanks
