Going to the shore and plan on taking my mando......anyway, has anyone ever had any problems after being out in the salt air?

Sometimes I get a rash....
Jersey shore?
Nah, I live close to the Jersey shore....heading to Hatteras for the weekend
Guess I should clarify this for those who need a better explanation....the salt air and the mandolin....
I'm in Monmouth County. When I want to go to the beach I go to the OBX as well![]()
Hey Diego
I'm in Burlington County myself. Go to Waretown as much as I can. Do you ever take your mando to the beach and just sit and play?
Meesaz
We need to talk, I'm a regular at the Albert Hall. No, I never have time to go to the beach. I do however play outside a lot.
hmmmm....wonder who you are....hang out in the picking shed?
sometimes.
back to the beach question...tee hee. I live on a beach and play out there all the time...mainly in the morning, but I've found no problems, but I wouldn't bring my best mando out there either...sand blown by the wind can create little nicks...

I live near Belmar and spend as little time there as possible. Go figure.
Here's a photo of my beach mandolin (you can see me playing it at www.fatt-dad.com ). #I love having my mandolin at the beach, but it does take its toll on the tuning machines and tailpiece (corrosion). #Try the monel Sam Bush mandolin strings and it helps keep the wound strings from getting too tarnished.
At the risk of repeating myself, "You can take any mandolin to the beach, but you can only return with a beater".

Buy a beater, take it to the beach... camping, the movies. Leave the good one at home.

HI all
We will be living aboard our sailboat and full-time cruising in about 3 years.
I own a Lebeda F5 that I love and a lovely Weber Bridger A. No way do I want to take them onto the boat full-time.
I know I need to have a mandolin on the boat. It's a must! Any suggestions of nice playing mandolins to take cruising with us? I also own a Weber Sweet Pea but I'd rather have a full size instrument. Any suggestions for a nice playing instrument, but not one I need to worry about?
Thanks.

Jill,
You should probably get a Mid-Mo. I can see it now. Layed back with your toes on the tiller playing the mando. Have to think of a safe place to put it while you're triming the mizzen.![]()
You'd better hope your CRAZY cause there's no cure for STUPID
... and a Mid-Mo makes a nice paddle if things get rough!![]()

I'd do that in a heartbeat except I'm already tied up for the next weekend at Windgap (PA) for the bluegrass festival. Do they have that festival every year?
This is the 7th year for the festival. Usually the first full weekend in June. Music, storytelling, boat bulding, craft show, etc.
