Can anyone recommend any not-super-expensive recording software for a PC.

I am not looking for profesional grade stuff here. Basically, I just want to use it as a compositional tool where I can record a guitar track then a mando track overtop it, then sit back and listen and see if what I came up with sounds any good together.

I got one at Comp USA called Audio Studio 7 it works well, a bit hard to understand at first. You can play guitar then play it back and record mandolin, then play back add banjo ect. and make your own songs. Cost about 30 bucks. JD

I just bought Trackion by Mackie and it's a totally awesome program for 80 bucks. It makes things way easier than the Cubase I was trying to learn. I'd suggest it to anyone starting out that has some computer experience, but not much recording experience like me!

N-Tracks is great for recording, then use Audacity to Master gives you good clean sound.

also digitalsoundplanet.com has quartz free , 4 track and very easy to use but my sound card can only handle one track , I tried a few different softwares and get the same problem , the sound card can't handle playback and recording at the same time , breaks up. Protools also has a free version but get out your thinking cap "PRO" !!! I would try the free stuff first to see if your PC can handle it , mine is a 2 year old HP pavilion and I won't sink any money into it.
