Since I decided to replace the machine heads on my 1917 Gibson A I've searched all over the UK and can't find any tuners with 15/16 centres, they all seem to be 29/32 or metric sizes, can anyone help or what tell me is the usual thing to do.

    Thanks in advance, Dave H

Dave, there are a few threads around on this, but most of them tell you the same thing: There are no straight replacements.
On the up side, have a look at this thread which deals with how to get the best out of your old tuners. The pros seem to agree that a good clean and lube will usually be enough to get them working great again!

Thanks Germain, I'd already decided on a good clean up and clean nut grooves etc.

Incidently has anyone tried mini single geared tuners which Fylde,Paul Shippey and others fit on their mandolins, or is this peculiar to the UK.

I finally found a brand new set of Schaller tuners with 15/16 centres at the Music Room, a traditional instrument shop in Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire, they fit my 1917 Gibson A perfectly.

So new tuners are there which will fit old Gibsons, you just need to find them.

Good for you! It's good to know there are replacements around. Make sure you keep the old tuners though, resale value will stay higher if you do.
