Major improvement to an excellent mandolin.
Not sure what came on the Phoenix Deluxe but the G's were 0.039", bronze or phos-bronze. I described the sound as punchy with very little pick attack; clean, articulate, crystaline, not woody, nice ringy sustain. I wanted to add some richer warmer harmonics and loose a little of that crystaline sound. The Thomastik heavies (stark) certainly did the trick. Very nice improvement, I will use another set next.

Did you notice a change in your intonation when you changed to the Thomastiks?

No, I checked the harmonics at the twelfth fret and they're still right on. I could see how some people would find the Thomastiks a bit dull though. I've tried other flat wounds years ago, guitar strings, and most were horribly dull.
