I'm flying to San Antonio next week for a couple of weeks. Where to go for jams, music stores etc. Live music? How far up the road is Austin, I need to visit that town too. Thanks everyone.

Go to the river walk in San Antonio. Nice downtown, too.
If you want music, go to Austin, about an hour and a half up the road.
If you make it to Austin, I can give you good musical recomendations.

I just returned from San Antonio. I was there to attend my son's graduation from Air Force Basic Training and spent the weekend with him. The Riverwalk is cool and worth a visit. The Alamo is very close by as well. I didn't get a chance to check out any music. Oh, by the way, Texas is HUGE! Have a great trip!

    Thumbs up

About a mile straight south of the Alamo, on the same street, is a place called Rosario's. It's great little neighborhood place. The last time we were there a trio (2 drums and a guitar) came in about 9:00 and played 'til the wee hours. Great Mexican music! (And a whole lot cheaper than the Riverwalk.)
    Check it out.

A must visit in San Antonio is The Esquire bar downtown. Just ask anyone for directions. A rough and tumble place, great mile long bar, wall flocking, all-walks-of-life clientele, 80cent Lone Star on draft. Killer jukebox. Also head north of town on Broadway to find the Liberty Bar in a fun-house racked and shifting old wooden house with great food and also great bar. Any local can direct you to either.

    Vamonos al West Side!

Or drive up to Austin and hope that Kev, Jimmy and the Gourds are playing someplace.
