So.. There were both regular mandolin-scaled AND mandola scaled Kents? I have one that's about 16". It came to me tuned up to GDAE and was a real cheese slicer! CGDA is much kinder on the fingers, but a tad flabby. I wonder if 17" would be better..
Does anyone currently make emandolas, perhaps in a 17+" scale as delsbrother suggests? Seems to me a CGDA for a 4 stringer would be more versatile that one tuned GDAE.![]()

The Schwab at 14.5" scale length works quite nicely tuned CGAE.

Risa and Joseph Yanuziello both make 8-string e-mandolas. Terry Bales, who just got back into the luthierie game, has offered a 4-stringer in the past.

Back to the original topic, I don't recall there being a mandola in the Kent catalog from that period, so I am perplexed about this. If I didn't trust Charles completely I'd wonder if he spent too much time in the spray booth on that particular day ...
If anyone has a photo of Gatemouth Brown actually playing an e-mando of any sort, I'd love to get a copy thereof.

Near where I work is a Kent e-Mandolin that looks like this
It's heavy has a zero fret and looks pretty cool. #A single coil Kent pickup... are these any good? #The guy wants $200 for it. #I didn't get a chance to play it... He said it was great but it's missing the e-course so....I decided I wasn't interested in an 8 string e-mando now so if you're interdted I can FW the info along. #I don't have any interest in this deal I was just curious if this was a good price for an older e-mando. #I didn't have time to play it and have never played an e-mando.

$200's pretty fair ... pass along some contact info, please?
What do you mean by "missing the E course"? Looks like it's just down 1 string. Easy to fix.

$200? You Dawg!Luv that quilted blonde figure..
Yeah, whenever the words quilt, blonde, and figure appear in the same sentence, there's gonna be trouble.
The photo is actually from emando.com (thought I recognized it!). I'll have to see what the actual instrument under discussion looks like.
