So my wife's nephew gave me a frog carved of wood with a little stick. You drag the stick across the back of the frog and if done right really sounds close to a frog. I find myself wondering what I could play on a mando that would go along with this. Currently I am trying to record the frog into garage band so I can noodle with it.

My point or question is just how nuts am I !?

I recommend the OT tune "Froggy went Courtin'" Mando Tabbed Melodyor the Bob Dylan Guitar Chord with Lyrics

How could you not play that with a Frog rocker. #This tune has so many lyrics and variations on it you can really have a blast with it.

Doc Watson does a great version.

Have fun. #I'll record a kazoo part if you want.

Froggie went a courtin he did ride ah hah (rub rub rub)

    I have 4 sizes.

I think the standard size for good frog noise is the 4". The largest one I have is 12". The smallest ones sound more like a cricket.

Oh, I had no doubts about their existence, was introdused to Arkel (sp?) by Benignus many moons ago. They're addictive little creatures, just put one on a table at a music fest and see if everybody that notices it doesn't have to try it out. Even caught myself checking 'em out at a booth at the local farmer's market, but I was able to resist the temptation only after trying each one out.

I used to bring mine with me to festivals for kids and such but I am so sick of hearing them. Especially when the timing is off while jammin.

Whatchutalkinbout? Arkel is a Toad! ... not some measley pond frog.

I bought Arkel in SF's Chinatown at the eclectic Clarion Music. I had picked up a larger sized toad and was just thwacking it on the nose like it was a cowbell, or wood block when a lady who worked there (who I doubt spoke any English), picked up a smaller one and slowly stroked its back with the mallet producing a very convincing ... Croak! I thanked her, and promptly bought the one she was holding, as it was clearly the most musical sounding of them all.

I became so facinated with this toad that I Googled 'wooden musical toad' hoping for more info. I soon learned about Debussy's weirdo, OCD tendencies and how he once found a wooden, musical toad on a trip through China. He obsessed on the thing, and named him 'Arkel'. From them on he refused to travel, perform or rehearse unless Arkel was in sight! LOL!

So now you all know that I'm pretty much as looney as Claude.

My frog's name is, "Croaker." He's the large variety. I have an owl who accompanies him... Her name is, "Whooter."

    Boring, but true...

P.S... I spent a lot of time with the frogman too... We also picked out the most musical one... He gave me a big discount on Croaker, and threw in the owl for free... What a score! (must be my charming personality...)

my mother who lives in the country in North Carolin has one. When she first got it the neighbors (what few there are in close proximity) cames around to listen to it and then spend an afternoon talking about how it kinda really sounds like a frog croak.

They don't have much to do around those parts....
