I downloaded a Jethro Burns show from Bluegrassbox the other night and am about to listen to it. I've never heard his music before although I've you all talk about him. We'll see. (The show is from 1982 @ Birchmere, Alexandria VA)

I also see that it includes John Duffey, Jimmy Gudreau, Doyle, Akira Otsuka, Al Petteway, Pete Kennedy, Jimmy Arnold, and Mark Schatz.

I think Jethro has a cool and interesting style. I ran across a 4 cd set of him quickly running through about 30 tunes for some guy, they call it "a lesson with Jethro" but it sounds more like a demo of Jethro's style. It's quite entertaining and interesting. I particularly liked his version of "Up a Lazy River", never heard it on the mandolin before.

That show is good, the guitar man is Pete Kennedy, very hip phrasing on Autumn Leaves. And Jethro is his not-PC self, calling Akira 'Yokohama' several times,,,not nice.

Let's say I'm amazed at some of Jethro's jokes.
    Not shocked, just amazed.

So that's Mark Schatz on bass. I suppose so, on the
    jazz numbers. The walking
soloist on Little Rock Getaway sounds like Tom Gray to
    me.

    There's a female singer on 2 or 3 numbers. Let's say
her most entertaining moment is when she enters How High
the Moon with great determination only to
find that the key is too low for her.

I loved the old corn-flakes commercial: Here's Homer and Jethro for Kellog's Cornflakes. Then the went on to an outrageous routine that ended up wit "Don't be Cornfused."

the two cd's that acoustic disc has, "swing low sweet mandolin", and "bye bye blues" really showcase jethro's style. just jethro with don stiernberg on guitar. i think that they're required listening for anybody that plays mandolin.

Jethro is still one of my all time favorite mando players.

Shprtly after his death I bought one of Jethros mandos.. a 2 point custom Washburn... from Chet Atkins..

Sadly in a fit of poverty I sold it along with a dozen others.. of those sold Jethros Washburn would be the only one I would want back.. and that group included A givens..

I think a bit of Jethro must hve rubbed off on the Washburn

Tiny Mooe is also in my top 10 group

I took some lessons from him back in 1979-80 in Sacramento..
love that single course 5 string sound..

Seems I read somewhere(!?) that THAT "pic' was "posed"/set-up and Chet "turned" the/his guitar for a better flick at the request of the camera-person. He was NOT left-handed!. And yes THAT is a "million-dollar" band - with talent that we may never hear again...IMHO. Thank goodness for recordings!! - Thanks for sharing. Moose.
