Okay, I'll start. It's scary what 30 or so years can do to a person. Here I am holding a bandmate's Gibson. I guess it was what I eventually wanted to do!

Jim,
You look the same, but that mandolin sure has changed over the years.

You are not alone in the boat!

Here's me from 1977 in my old time band. The picture on the right is from our LP(!)
I started with the cylinder back and sold it to get that 1919 A3. Wish I still had both.

Playing lately:
Brentrup A4C -- 1915 Frank Merwin Ashley violin -- 1904 Embergher Type 3 -- 1937 Gibson L-Century -- 1939 Gibson L-00 -- ca. 1890s Celebrated Benary Banjo -- 1985 Monteleone Grand Artist Mandola
Here's me last June at Carlo Aonzo's workshop. Contrary to popular belief, I don't only play bowlbacks. (That one is my Pandini.)

Lookin' good Jim! You and the mandolins!
Happy New Year!

P.S. I didn't say anything about the plaid shirts! Nothing!
don't know how well this will reproduce but that's me playing guitar on the right of the photo (white shirt, black jeans, regulation tennis shoes) opposite my friend geoff miller on banjo (blue work shirt, black jeans, etc.) - washington square, circa 1962.

I'm not as well known on this board as some of y'all but there's a well-known guy in this photo from 1976. (I'm the guy on the left - I've obviously given that other instrument up for a more practical axe.) I've also started wearing hats since the natural cover has vanished over the past 30 years!
Happy New Year!

All right, Milan... pardon my ignorance... who is the well-know guy? The guy on the right looks like Walt Disney, but I think he was dead by then.Originally Posted by (MC Gitarz @ Dec. 31 2005, 14:09)

C'mon man, that's the inimitable Tennessee Ernie Ford! What a baritone voice!
Rick in Memphis
Inimitable, indeed! Consider the fact that he, too, is wearing a checked shirt. Oh What does it all mean???

Yep - that's Ernie Ford and even after hearing "16 Tons" a thousand times over the years, it was like hearing it for the first time when we backed him up. Unbelieveable voice - and a genuinely nice human being.

Fun idea, here is a before and after of me and variations of the band. In this shot I'm over on the left and that's my mandolin hanging over the cabin door.
Peace
And after.
Peace
Cool pics folks!! Lp

OK: Then-- 1980 at a youth hostel in Namur Belgium in free spirit mode. Suzuki bowlback in the case.
Now: with Pandini 2005
OK, I did find one in which I'm wearing a plaid shirt but there isn't a mandolin in the picture.

Linda,
Is it flannel? In those days, if it wasn't flannel it would have been a long underwear type shirt!

This still qualifies as a "then" photo - no plaid shirt on me although the fellow behind me is wearing one.
