I did a search for this topic and read the posts but they still didn't answere my question so forgive me for posting a neck question again. I 'm sure it's been covered plenty.

How exactly do you get the finish off the back of the neck?
    What materials do you use?
I don't care if the back is a different color it may look funny but at least I won't stick to it.

Flowerpot is right, for safetys sake use sand paper. Don't use scrapers of any kind unless you are familiar with them, because you can gouge the wood if not careful. Rough removal of lacquer with 120 - 150 grit, smoothing with 220 grit, and finish sand with 320 - 400 grit before applying shellac. This will seal the wood and be a good fairly non sticky surface. It is easily re touched as it wears. I have refinished several necks in this manner (at request of owners) for just this reason.
