I contacted the seller about the error in the listing and the next thing I know all bids were cancelled. I was nervous that it could be a scam not knowing really what to look for. I hope I wasnt the cause of this. I also wanted to bid.

The auction had a winner. I wonder how the seller backed out of this. I guess the seller thought he could get more by relisting it, but the auction did end with a high bidder. We have all heard of "buyers regret" but now "sellers regret"! I had thought about bidding but maybe not now.

iASKED THE SELLER ABOUT THE SIGNATURE ISSUE THAT IS WHEN HE POSTED THE MISTAKE TELLING EVERYONE THEY COULD BACK OUT. 5 MINUTES LATER 2HRS LEFT ALL BIDS CANCELLED. hE LET THE AUTION RUN OUT AND THERE WAS A WINNER. nOT LONG AFTER THAT THE SELLER CONTACTED ME TO SAY THE WINNER WANTED OUT BECAUSE OF THE SIGNATURE ISSUE AGAIN. aT THIS TIME HE CONTACTED ME TO OFFER SALE OF MANDOLIN. aND HE WANTED ME TO CONTACT HIM AT HIS WEBSITE,i DECLINED. HE relisted but in his feedback the last winner who cancelled his bid left the seller very positive feed saying it was a flawless transaction. Now it is up for sale again. Am I NUTS OR DOES ALL THIS SEEM A LITTLE ODD OVER AN ERROR IN DESCRIPTION OF A FAIRLY SOUGHT AFTER ITEM?

Yes after talking with e-bay they could not provide enough evidence that would indicate my fears, I may have overacted.

You trust ebay? They are pretty clueless in regard to scams.

You talked with ebay? I thought you couldn't get a human being there to respond anymore (at least that's what I've heard people say).

To be fair, I looked, and this seller has excellent feedback, and the vast majority of it (in the past year, anyway) has been as a seller. You can't get much better than 99.6%. If I were in your shoes and it were something I wanted, I'd bid too. #From looking at the variety of stuff he or she sells and has sold, I figure this seller knows nothing about mandos, and possibly has this one on consignment or from an estate. #He or she could well have relied on someone else to get information about it, and then balked after realizing he'd prominently put out a wrong detail that caused consternation among potential buyers (it's one thing to correct the listing with an addendum, but I don't think you can change the actual title, where it had previously said "signed"), and, rather than be stuck with a misunderstanding, s/he decided to relist instead - something that's a bit awkward looking to a cynical bystander, but these things sometimes happen.

No commercial interest, but I must make the disclaimer that I personally still dig eBay, warts and all.
