In my own ignorance, I went looking for my favorite topic to reminisce over the last few months and found, to my chagrin, that the topic was gone. I emailed Scott and he informed me that inactive threads are deleted after 60 days.

I would propose setting up some sort of archive pages either on this site (I asked Scott, but I assume that there is some limit for space) or elsewhere, for some of these topics that interest us. I could prob do some of it on my pages. Any suggestions?

I do feel that our classical area esp has some very good discussions and information that are available rarely elsewhere.

Certainly we wouldn't, for example, want to lose all that valuable information about clownshoe cases.

Tragic! I would encourage all of us amongst the crateraphilic mandolinists to post individaual threads with each new acquisition.

Some type of archiving would certainly be a good idea for many of the threads that have appeared. It's a shame to lose all of that information. Occasionally, I'll copy all of the posts in a thread and paste them into a word processor document, but graphics don't go along for the ride and this doesn't solve the problem of wider access. Obviously, not everything can get saved forever but it would be nice if there were a way to nominate material for archiving. Actually, some of the graphics-rich threads are among the most archive-worthy.

I could copy and paste the code and the graphics and reconstruct some of the threads on my site. I am not sure how much I can hold in total tho.

I am in planning stages for my bowlback museum so it could all fit in somehow -- if I can ever find the time to do it all.

    Hello,

I also have tried to find old topics in vain. I thought I just can find them, but now the reason is clear - 60 days and boooom. I think it was Victor who made a folder MIMI by himself (Most Important Mandolin Informations). We should think about something like that and keep there the inetersting informations provided by the people here. We all know, that sometimes posting needs time and intellectual effort, which deserve better treatment.
I think, I still keep some of the topics in my PC even from the old Board. I`ll check them tonight and can send the informations to the person who`ll take the responsibility of archiving them. I think I could also provide some webspace.

    Good luck!

    Hello,

Here is one essential thread from the old board, that I found in my PC. Some of you could find interesting informations and useful advises. For me personally it was great fun to read through it. I laughed a lot! Hope it will be fun for some of you too. The early years - meeting each other, trying to add an image,...

    Enjoy!

Ha, ha... Plamen, I am truly AMAZED at your enormous memory, i.e. that you still remember my, ehm... "mi chiamano Mimi" folder!

But yes, I still have it, mostly with salient points of educational value by Alex, RSW, et al, for some future reference (retirement?) Unfortunately, however, it has no images.

I have resurrected the topic Post a Picture...

Perhaps we can keep it going for some time.

Just wondering if anyone else is interested in posting or re-posting pictures of their instruments. Seems Like I am the only one interested in keeping this thread alive.

In honor of this auspicious holiday today, I have posted another bowlback mandolin. Scroll down to the bottom of the thread.
