Assuming you have a Gibson-style tailpiece, you can slip the cover off by pulling it away from the bridge.
To replace it, you simply need to slide it back into place. Took me a good 3 months to figure that one out on my first mando!![]()

One of the most important tools for me when I was learning how to get the tailpiece on and off, and how to change strings, was a box of band-aids![]()
The last time I slid the cover off her tailpiece it was the beginning of a beautiful evening...
OH NO! You took it off?
Well... Throw it in your case. It will never stay on now. It is sure to pop off while you wander around at a festival. #![]()
Smiling, but not a fan of tailpiece covers.
replace it with a 1 piece..might as well get use to ugrading parts... is that UAS?
I was talking to a guy at the last BG Jam, and he said that he was proud of himself in that he had finally gotten the courage to change strings. Said it took him a half an hour to get the string through the hole and onto the tailpiece. I broke his heart when I showed him how easily the cover slid off. Lol. But, thats how we learn.

Celtic Saguaro - Blue smoke! You must have owned some British sports cars. Everyone knows that the Lucas electrical system operated on blue smoke!

I LOVED the band aid comment...The first time I popped the cover off I lost a good amount of blood and kept thinking "There's GOT to be a Better Way."
There is: Allen tail pieces...much easier

My heartfelt sincerest condolences to you![]()
Let's just hope that you mandolin strings were not made by Lucas.
The sound combined with the blue smoke would be too much for one to handle![]()

Mother Lucas always told her boys, 'Don't go out after dark!' Why do the English drink warm beer? They use Lucas refridgerators...
I won't go further, but there are a zillion of 'em. You know, I know you do. <GGG>
