Anyone out there know the nut width and neck shape of the Loar era A2Z snakeheads. I did a search but nothing came up with that info. Thx

Just over and inch, but less than 1-1/16. Quite V shaped

Thanks a bunch. I am thinking of ordering a custom Pomeroy A2. I played an A2Z about a year ago and remember I liked the size and shape of the neck. I thought it was a bit wider then the standard today but from what I have read on line most of tem the are round 1 - 1 1/8.

This brings me to another questions do most of the Loar era mandolins have slimmer necks?

I believe that sometimes the 1924 necks are slightly narrower than the 1923 necks. Just my limited observation...Gary S

I once played a Gibson L5CESN that had a neck that fitted my hand so perfectly it was scary. I was only a middleman in the deal, and I'm not into jazz boxes anyway, but I should have had a template made. I'll never find that guitar again, and even if I did, it wouldn't do me much good.

From the above, I'd say you were in the same position as I am. No two necks are likely to be exactly the same, except maybe now that there's computer-controlled machinery to do the shaping.

    Good luck.

"had a neck that fitted my hand so perfectly it was scary"
Bob you hit the nail right on the head there. I asked if he wanted to sell it but got a resounding, "HELL NO". I have a good feeling that Don can make me a neck that fits pretty good as well.
