Hi folks. I have no financial interest in this, but I think I should comment. I helped a friend get this instrument from the same person that I got my July 9 Loar from in the early 80's.

This fern is without a doubt, the finest that you will ever see offered for sale. It has it all. Nothing else need be said.

It looks rather reddish. Is this where Gibson got the coloring for the modern "FERN " ? It is beautiful.

Yes...The new Gibson Fern is a rather faithful copy of this era of vintage Ferns. #The pictures are maybe a bit red..as the real color is sort of an oxblood maroonish hue blending to the more amber center. #The photo of the tailpiece (the one at an angle) is more representative of maroon color I mention

I didn't see a price listed in the ad. As the old saying goes, "if you have to ask how much it is, you can't afford it"...

I was curious, too, any guesses as to what price range this one will go in?

I cannot speak for the seller nor what the market may bear. #But, $75K-85K would have been a respectable price when a very good Loar was at $110K-$120K. So, what the market says will be what the market says, since a Fern of this nature has not been available anytime lately

When you see a 20's Fern that has a case with it that has not one scratch or nick on it you best believe what is inside is as good as it gets. Clean, clean, clean describes this one. $85K would be a steal of a deal even if you threw in a 20's F4.

I would love to see it sell for the equivalent of its serial number
