Has anyone seen a Rover RM75 in any finish other than the dark brown. I love these mando's but I'm not crazy about the finish. I had one once that was almost maroon in appearance on the back. For those who have seen a RM75, is this typical? Does it look maroon to you? ~Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I am not really familiar with them, but coincidentally I saw three over the past two days. I saw someone playing one at our neighborhood farmers market yesterday, and it was sort of a dark brown. Today I saw two in a store, one so dark it was almost black, and another a dark brown kind of on the maroon side. (I didn't play any of them, but I really enjoyed a Stradolin I played today with almost traditional f-holes, and a great distressed/weathered finish.)

I think they only come in varying shades of brown. I had one that was pretty dark when I got it, but ightened up as it opened up. I would say it was a dark purpley brown color. For the money, its a tough mandolin to beat.

While on the Rover question, I'm wondering if any of you have compared the M75 with the Epiphone MM50? I have an Epi as a travel mando but played a Rover in a store and thought it sounded better although maybe not as loud. Any comparisons? And how's the Rover neck? Just thought I'd ask.

I seem to remember that when the RM75 first appeared, there was a rumour that they were actually Kentuckys that had cosmetic finish problems, or poor figure in the wood, and were oversprayed darker to mask that. No idea whether that's true, but it would explain the dark finish.

I thought the rover was better than any of the other sub-1000 mandos that I tried. I couldnt somehow justify the price of any other mando I tried. The neck is nice and slim. I never had a lick of trouble with mine, especially after I replaced the bridge with an ebony one.

My Rover is a deep dark brown, pretty consistant color, only somewhat darker around the edges, front and back,I had to get used to the absence of a pick guard at first, but actually like the play and look, I took the pick guard off my A-style mando

Brownish/maroonish is the finish on all of them. #I actually prefer the color as I'm tired of sunburst. #The sound is what got me. #Very woody sound and loud bark to it. #I've installed a Allen tail piece and an ebony bridge. #This improved an already great sound.

    RM75s are quite the deal!

Sorta off topic but not. #I have been looking at these as a travel/camping/office/don't mind leaving in the car mando. #Seems like a good deal for the $. #Where would all you RM-75 owners suggest as a good place to buy one? #Thanks.

I got the Allen Tail piece from First Quality Music: #http://www.fqms.com/ I had to fill the three holes with devcon putty (plastic steel). #You can use wood filler if it is the kind that really gets hard. #Then I taped the tail piece in the position I wanted which centered the end pin hole with the one in the tail piece. #I then drilled the three holes.

I got the bridge at Stewmac: #http://www.stewmac.com/
    Best!!

The bridge may have to be sanded in to match the contour of the top of the mandolin. #

    Best!!!!
