    Hi Folks,

I have some pics that I would like to download as part of my posts.

When I hit browse on the post to download a pic, it seems to hose up. I'm sure it has to do with my processor.

However on Grandmainger's site, it seems to be that I need to have the pic to a website first in order to download.

    Am I following directions?

    Thanks,
    Keith Erickson

Keith, do you mean upload? I assume you have a photo on your PC, and want to add it (upload it) to one of your posts.

Did you check this section of my tutorial?

    Germain,

Yes, You're right. Ooops my bad.

Anyway, it's not working. I try to add the pic and it will not let me. It just keeps bringing me back to my original post.

    Thank you anyway

    OKay....

...a revelation The file can not be more than 100kb and I'm trying to "upload" 200kb +. ( doh )

Anyway, I'm going to have to resize this son of a gun somehow.

    LOL

Oh boy talking about making a fool out of myself in front of the world.

    Keith and Germain--

I have had the same problem recently.

I did follow the tutorial which was very helpful with the resizing issue.

On some pictures though, the system reply was that file is too large.
I'm not a computer person so this has been hard to figure out since in some of the cases, the pictures that have been refused were taken by the same camera and at the same location, as ones that went without a problem.
What I did to get the pictures 'accepted' was to turn down the definition... Then sometimes, they'll go--- but then the picture doesn't look very good on the site.

I've taken some pretty cool pix that I'd like to share so I'm hoping that someone can give me some guidance on what I'm doing wrong....

    Thanx.

Not taking anything away from Germain and his picture guide. I haven't looked at it, seeing as I have some background in this.

The easiest way that I've found to do this is to get a picture program, like Paint Shop Pro or Microsoft Picture It!... Open the picture you want and in Paintshop Pro up top you have an editing button to Resize your picture. On the Picture It! it is over on the left side for changing the page feature.

I resize my pics down to around 5. I then go over to an online photo site like Photo Bucket or any of the other ones out there. Then I upload that specific pic. Then when uploaded you copy the image tag and post it directly into where your posting.

I do believe that this board is capable of you resizing the image and then clicking on the Image button above and pasting the image tag (the name of the picture) into it and it'll post it for you.

Maybe Germain can add or correct me here. Hope I haven't confused yall any more?

    Hey Keith

I am not an english native speaker so i use this board for learning about mandolins AND language.

Mmmh. Image size/weight is a rather complex business. It's a combination of actual size (in pixels, width x height), and complexity of the image in terms of number of colours (lots of little bits of varied colours, or many larger areas of related/same colour).

An image in .JPG format is using JPEG compression which, among other tricks, groups areas of similar colours/shade into one smaller set of data.

If your image is very complex (think picture of a field of flowers), it will weigh more in terms of disk space than a more basic image (like a photo of the sky).

Rule of thumb: for web posting, shrink the longest side to about 640 pixels. Do remember that images are 2D, and therefore, twice the length is 4 times the area, and 4 times the area is 4 times the weight in kilobytes !!!

The image below is 600 x 445 pixels, compressed at JPEG 6 (60%), and weighs 45 kilobytes. Ask yourself if you actually need it to be bigger

Any more questions? I'm not an expert, but I'm happy to help.

Another way, if you're having problems is to have tinypic.com host your photo, then use the image button at the top of the quick reply to point to the url at tinypic. It's better to upload it, but if you are having a hard time, use this.

Thanks for all the good tips, Germain, csstanley, and Neal!
We're on a little trip to Cypress Gardens but will be back late tomorrow. I'll work on posting them as soon as I get back to my main computer.

I think that I've got it now. Thanx!
