Hi all. I bought a Gibson snakehead mandolin several weeks ago, after years of wanting one. I have always liked the plain Sheraton brown A models, and I found one in great shape. The mandolin itself is very clean, and the original frets, nut, bridge, tuning machines, and case are all in great shape and working just like they should. The only negative is the missing pickguard. The upper frets show some tarnishing likely from the pickguard off-gassing or something, so I'm sure it's long gone.
This mandolin is not registered on Mandolinarchive.com, but I find its serial number interesting. The serial number is 71638, which makes it the only 7163x serial number on the archive that is not a Loar-signed F5--and it's three serial numbers away from David Grisman's Loar.
