I'm having my house tented next week because of a termite infestation. Do I need to worry about removing my instruments from the house?
Thanks,
Rob

How many do you have? A mandolin is small, I could carry mine anywhere and sometimes do. Rather than asking here, I'd just get 'em out - unless you have a real conservatory there and need a uhaul truck to move them. On second thought, if you have a conservatory there, probably should go ahead and rent the uhaul

You could bag them air-tight in trash bags and leave them where they are. But I would not leave them exposed to the pesticide fog, even in their cases.
Keep that skillet good and greasy all the time!
As a South Florida native (although no longer living there) I've gone through this process a few times. I always removed my musical instruments and cameras for two reasons: 1) avoiding the risk of theft while the house was unoccupied, and 2) because the air conditioning would be off, and most of the year that would be a large rise in temperature inside the house.
Are any mandos infested?
From Mandobart - " Are any mandos infested ? ". If the termites decide to seek refuge in them they will be.
Seriously,i'd remove any items from my home if i even imagined any possible damage to them. I assume that 'tenting' means that the house will be fumigated ?.
This looks to be pretty informative :- https://www.termites.com/control/fum...n-preparation/
Thank goodness we don't suffer from termites in the UK - other critters yes,but not something that would snack on my mandos.,

Except for possibly bow hair bugs, they will eat hide glue too (that stuff that often holds mandolins together) as well as violin bow hair. And tortoise shell, here's a two-page MandolinCafe thread about bow bugs damaging a tortoise shell pick.
That said, my 10 seconds on Google didn't reveal any other instances of mandolin vs bow bug. So, such things are apparently uncommon. But, not impossible. Mysterious loose braces? Glue joints coming undone for no reason? Respected luthier Mike Tagawa told me, many years ago, that that *can* happen with vintage guitars, the bow bugs can damage the glue joints and cause structural-integrity problems.
The bugs also seem to prefer dark places... like a case that's closed all the time.
Yes remove them , but inspect them before you take them out of the house and inspect them before you bring them back

Boy! I wish I could award points for most evocative and unlikely subject lines. Mandolins? Termites? Tenting? Who knew these three could get mixed together. First I learn about Thile pipes, and now mandolins threatened by termites in a tent. What could come next?
