sorry, but can only share this Facebook link..
done quite recently, in a casual mode.
one knows that he is totally focussed, and poignantly quite removed from "distractions" during his build season.

Really neat to see his house and shop. Not a bad picker either!

Can someone try to post a link that's not Facebook? I'm searching for this interview but can't find it. And I don't have FB so can't watch it there.

    Thanks!

Edit: nevermind, I think I've got a way to play it...

I never did find it outside of Facebook. I just fiddled around with the facebook page until it played without making me create an account.

Does anyone know what the name of the tune that he plays at the end?

It certainly sounds like something Norman Blake would write, but it may be one of Steve's tunes influenced by Norman.

Don't have a FaceBook account (I don't), but want to watch and keep this or any other FaceBook video?

    1) Right click on FaceBook video
    2) Click: Show Video URL
    3) Copy: URL in white box
    4) Open this program: http://www.fbdown.net/index.php
    5) Paste link
    6) Click: Download
    7) Have a cup of tea, this might take a while, depending on your internet speed

    Hope this helps

Nice interview. Thanks for the link! I guess his preference for playing is for oval hole mandolins?

If you're home alone in such a quiet environment, an oval hole is all you really need. And who makes a better oval hole mandolin than Steven Gilchrist?. It is a really nice interview. Thanks again.

Wow, I really enjoyed that video. What a genuine and down-to-Earth guy Steve Gilchrist seems to be. I've only seen one Gil in person and that was when The Fauxgrass Quartet played here locally. I commented to Jason Wheeler how great his mandolin sounded all the way up the neck. He showed it to me and asked if I wanted to play it, but being new to mandolin and pretty bad, (and knowing how much it was worth) I was too terrified to even touch it. I kick myself now.
Anyway, Thanks for posting the video. Awesome stuff!
It ain't gotta be perfect, as long as it's perfect enough!

Well phooey. All the wonder and joy at the sound of my mandolins has been dampened. I am left with an empty, envious, feeling.

Man those mandolins sound good. Look good too.

Thanks for sharing the link. Steve sounds like an interesting guy who pursues his vocation and avocation successfully and simultaneously. Congratulations to him on all scores.

    Many thanks for the link.
Such a great mandolin maker and down-to-earth man(nice legs!)

I was fortunate enough to own two Gilchrist mandos(F-5 styles);but,in my travels up and down the ladder of success
found myself unable to afford to keep them. Such is life.

Got to play Compton's oval-holer;great mandolin! In fact,of the 6 or so Gils that I have played, have to say they all had
their own great qualities. The worst one I played was just wonderful.

    Long may you run,Mr. Gilchrist!
