Sad, sad indeed. Still a glorious musician. I'm my days as a "Rocker" of sorts, a band I was in, was a warm up band for Chuck, at Carr's Beach, near Annapolis, MD. Those days, I played Rhythm Guitar, Blues Harp, and sang. Not much better than I play mandolin today.
When I listen to Chuck these days, I swear I can hear Bill Monroe licks.

I think he was still rockin' till pretty recently. No one could make a guitar speak like that guy. R.I.P. Chuck

Sucks. But at least he was Chuck Berry. I hope I can make it to 90. RIP to the quintessential rocker.

I read a quote from Jerry Lee Lewis and paraphrasing...my mother told me that Chuck Berry was the king of rock and roll, not me...Ole Jerry Lee truly is getting around to last man standing. Rest In Peace, Mr. Berry.

Jerry Lee was always a character. Kind of surprised he isn't in an asylum of some sort.

    A major passing, Chuck Berry.
Back in my Jr. High & High school years seemed like every local Rock band did at least one Chuck Berry tune. That was one way you gauged how good their lead Guitarist was, how good they played Chuck Berry solos.
In Chicago in 1970, I saw the Rolling Stones (w/ Mick Taylor) with Chuck as the opening act. Rock 'n' Roll.

His music is what influenced so many--so that is what we should be thinking of right now...

& Condolences to his family & friends.
Would it save you a lot of time if I just gave up and went mad now?

I read an anecdote that one time way back in the day ('50s), JLL opened a show for Chuck and was a little miffed about it (the opening spot), so he threw everything he had into his number and ended by setting the piano on fire. Then he sauntered backstage where Chuck was waiting in the wings to come on and said nonchalantly, "follow that, sir!" or words to that effect.

At least I think it was Chuck Berry, there may be alternate versions of the anecdote out there.

Any, if there's a rock 'n' roll heaven, they just got a new member of the band! (Hey that'd make a good song ...)

"Chuck Berry:The Autobiography" is also an excellent choice. The Taylor Hackford movie "Hail, Hail Rock and Roll " has Bruce Springsteen telling the story of his band being the backup, pickup band for Chuck when he came to town.

Chuck Berry came over here back in the mid 1960's. He played at Manchester's old concert hall,The Free Trade Hall. On this particular Saturday,i met up with a couple of friends & we went to do our usual round of all the music stores looking at guitars (with no cash !). We went into one store & one of my friends asked to buy a set of 'x' make guitar strings, the ones he used, & the guy behind the counter told him that Chuck Berry had been in the day before & bought the whole stock !. I suppose there's a 'claim to fame' in there somewhere - ''Chuck Berry beat me to the strings !!''. As it was, until the guy told us,we didn't know that Chuck Berry was in town or we'd have been there - an awesome & unique talent & character,

    Lebeda F-5 "Special".

He played a more than once at Carr's Beach, Annapolis. One time in 1956, when there was still segregation in Maryland, 70,000 people showed up to see him. Problem was they only had capacity for 8,000!

A true pioneer and giant from the early-into-modern R 'n R era, whose performing moves and grooves influenced dozens of important bands and cats (Beatles, Michael Jackson, Johnny Winter, Grateful Dead, etc.). And he endured many hardships along the way (the trials of the road, the tax man, prejudice, etc.). I heard on the radio yesterday he insisted on being paid in cash.

    R.I.P., Chuck Berry.
