I'm currently saving towards my #2 which will probably be a Crystal Forest Pancake model... been wanting one of those for a while now, but on a grander scale, I keep hearing all the good about The Collings MT, and I would love to at least try an early (1920's) Gibson oval-A: a snake head or the like, and finally (even grander) I got to play a Gilchrist F5 jr at our local jam and thought that thing was awesome! Also, I agree with Drew Streip, the Campanella's look pretty awesome... But for now, since I don't play the lottery or have any relatives wealthy enough to die and leave me a fortune, they will remain dreams.

Enough money so I can try a whole bunch of mandolins (do I want one of those new F5's Gibson is making? or a Loar? or a snakehead or some other old Gibson oval-hole? or an Ellis? or something else?) and banjos (what will sound best when I get good at clawhammer?) until I find the ones I want. I already have all the guitar I want, a Martin OM-21 that sounds great for Piedmont blues fingerpicking.

Oh, and retirement sounds pretty damn nice too, so I can have the time to play all these beautiful instruments. In which case I will need two of each, one for here and one to keep in Italy for the six months a year we will be spending there (in this dream world that Loarcutus of Borg has conjured up).

I'd be delighted to have an old but playable Gibson F4 with torch and wire headstock and tree of life fingerboard inlay. Otherwise I'm in good shape with mandos.

I am with Astro and jasona combined - retirement so I can practice more so I can enjoy my Pava and Weber and bowlbacks more and become a more proficient mandolin player! (notice I did not say "good" - just "improved!")

I am fully satisfied with the three mandolin-family instruments I have and don't want to 'upgrade' any of them. It's the old bit about wanting what you have versus having what you want. I really do want the ones I have. These being my Phoenix Neoclassical, my Crystal Forest A/N Flat-top, and my highly custom very short-scale Weber OM.

The one thing I am still hankering for is a soprano mandolin; either a Weber or one of Mike Black's. In time, the right one will come along on the right day and that will be solved. Otherwise, I am completely content with those I have. If the soprano never happens along, I'm ok with that, too. Other than more time, which retirement might solve, there is very little I want. I really am a satisfied person.

I'm a great admirer of Ellis mandolins, but there are others i'd love to try out. A Weins F5 style / a Gibson F5G / a Gil. / a Dude. & many others. I'm definitely an admirer of Jamie Weins' work, his mandolins look awesomely good. A good Gibson F5G / 'Sam Bush' would cut it as well,

I'm also sorted on the mandolin side so all would be other, newly commissioned instruments

    Calace Liuto Cantabile
Violoncello by Rebecca Houghton at Viva Violins
Arch top mandoloncello by Phil Davidson, to match my two point mandolin.
Then I'd get different people I know to make me a Tenor Banjo, flat-top tenor guitar arch-top tenor guitar, it's such a remote possibility I've not looked seriously.

A Cohen C# model and an Old Wave oval. These deserve to be played but I could be happy entering a room and just seeing both of these two on display.

No, I'd have to play them.

I am a spoiled old retired guy with instruments of such fine quality that I really don't need , that word, to purchase any more. I have looked my entire playing life for the best instruments I could afford and now I have them. I smile with glee each time I get the time, to open a case and play. I am blessed, or lucky if you prefer, and thankfully. R/

I have been retired for 9 years now and I need the rest of you to keep working so I get my Social Security check each month.

I have a great mando and am totally happy with it, but you never know when MAS will hit.

As far as dreaming. My passion is golf (45 years) and a trip to St. Andrews is on top of the list, as well as Pebble Beach. Probably not going to happen , but I can dream can't I.

Instrument wise my list would include:

-Campanella Due (or any model for that matter)

    -Wally Carroll Anglo C/G concertina

More realistically, my next purchase somewhere in the future will likely be:

-Nigel Forster Session King tenor guitar

In general my dream (and intention!) is to move back to Ireland and open up a small farm animal sanctuary (somewhere in Co. Galway) that also doubles as a musician/artist retreat with music venue onsite for hosting performances (that raise money for the sanctuary). Gonna find a way to make it happen!

My dream list-----Another Paganoni, sold mine years ago
    Prewar Gibson F-5
1935ish Gibson F-10 so I can complete my set.

I"ve got a MAS problem so I could add a few more. A custom Wiens F-5,"small rounded neck" A Monte, Grand Artist or F-5 copy.
    A Duff A or F
Randy Wood "I've got his custom work done on 3 mandolin necks for my F-7 conversions" But would like a complete Wood
Also a 24 Gibson A model with Verzi. 1935 Gibson A-50 with elevated board, I've owned 2 but would like em back. Good little horns man!
Thats some more goodies I'll add on but us with a problem is the list ever complete!?!?!?

Boy I cannot argue with this. Though I am specifically intrigued by the Campanella piccolo mandolin.

And I have my eyes on a Mann five string electric octave.

And maybe a fan fret 10 string mandola-mandolin.

Other things too, that I cannot identify yet but will lust after them when I bump into them.

But seriously for a second, right now my biggest dream is to attain a creditable account of myself at FMCM IX this summer. To come away being able to do more than I could when I arrived, (not all that hard) but more, to do well enough reliably enough that I can feel good about it.

Funny, I've managed to achieve my musical dreams. Not all - when I was a kid I fantasized about being a rock star and living the life of Mick Jagger (that mostly didn't happen ). But, most of my life I 'dreamed' of playing harp - the sound that makes me dream when I hear it..

I am quite happy with my Buchanans, but I can imagine a 17-fret 2-pickup solid-body electric (either 10 or 5-string).

I would just like to be able to play some of the great mandolins out there. A trip to Carters and Gruhn's for starters. I have heard a few really outstanding ones in person and some up close. But, the one mandolin that really had a draw is a late 20's Gibson F4. It is in great original shape and sounds wonderful. So if Santa Wanted to leave that one under the tree I would not complain.
