This is the first I have ever heard of lyrics for Colored Aristocracy. I wasn't aware there ever were lyrics. It has always just been a tune. At least I thought so.

Let us know what you find.

Always thought it was an instrumental but heard a group on YouTube playing it and singing. Hard to decipher the vocals as it was live and at a noisy venue.

Originally it was just a tune, no words. The Holy Modal Rounders wrote words to the tune & titled it "Voodoo Queen Marie", for their Alleged in Their Own Time record. Maybe the band you heard was using those lyrics, if so they're on line, just search that title.

The tune Colored Aristocracy was published in 1899 but bears no resemblance to the one commonly played today, the common one dates to a 1936 recording by WV fiddler, Sanford Rich. I don't think either has any lyrics.
