    Default Charleston Bluegrass Festival 2017

    April 7th and 8th (Fri/Sat)
    https://www.picatic.com/event14865870887443

Anyone else going? Our band will be playing a set on Saturday but I might camp there so there will be plenty of time for a campfire jam if anyone wants to meet up.

Its a great 2 day festival this year with the awesome Band Of Ruhks http://www.bandofruhks.com/ as the headliner Saturday night (dream IBMA all star band !) and also Forlorn Strangers https://forlornstrangers.com/

But there will be lots of regional and local talent playing(then there's us ).

Forum member Daniel Patrick (of Mandolins & Beer fame) is also playing Saturday with his namesake band (one of about a dozen--the man's busy).

Ive seen the festival site and its awesome. (Middleton Place Woodlands across the street from Middleton Place Plantation). Lots of shade under the live oaks, two lakes for kayaking (watch for gators), tent camping at one spot and camper/RV camping at another, food vendors including local BBQ and local breweries... This festival is still intimate and still in its infancy but its going to get huge some day. its just too awesome a spot.

Hope to see some forum folks there !
No matter where I go, there I am...Unless I'm running a little late.

Astro! I am looking forward to this festival!! It's pretty great that Charleston is getting a festival like this. Eddie knows how to put together a great event and I'm looking forward to being a part of such a cool lineup!

I was checking out the videos of the bands at the festival website. I was really impressed with the young talent they are having at the festival. I'm going to bring 2 or three mandolins. Might try to sell one or two. Who knows?

Thanks for the heads up! Will check it out. Lived in Mt Pleasant for 7 years, and am still not sure how we ever talked ourselves into moving away from the Sullivan's Isle beach...

Tell me about it! We lived up the coast in Pawley's Island from 1980-93. Same thing. Annapolis is a nice area, but right now its 30F here and never got over 36 today. High of 57 today in Pawley's Island. Likely higher in Charleston.

Well if we get a few Cafe members coming and anyone want to try a Madolin Cafe meet-up, let me know. Probably the best time is about 11 am Saturday before the music starts. I know they will have some vendors but I dont think there will be anyone selling mandolins. So if you have some to show and sell, bring them on !

Bringing both the Silverangel and the Summit Two Point. Give you a holler when I get there. Thursday Afternoon/Evening most likely. Staying out in Summerville. Looking forward to the visit. Low Country one of my favorite regions. Get back there at least once a year.

We'll see you there! I plan on wearing my Mandolin Café hat as well as carrying around a mandolin with a Café sticker on the case.

Glad you guys are discussing this 'cause I almost forgot about it.

I'm going to try to make it out Saturday. If I do I'll be bringing the Flatiron since it's both rugged and ultra-portable.

    Northfield F5S Amber #347 - 'Squeeze'
Mann EM-5 Hollow Body - Gimme Moore
Kentucky KM-270 - Not just for whisky

    Epiphone Mandobird IV - Djangly

OK, I'll be sporting my brand new Mandolin Cafe hat ! I just ordered and received one for this occasion. Its the khaki colored one with the idiot underneath it. If anyone else wants to be recognized to meet up, put your hat on !

Btw, its a well made hat. It came quick and with 2 MC stickers! Thanks Scott !

All I have to do now is customize it. Thinking about sewing on a half dozen tunning pegs around the bass of the hat so they stick up a bit. Maybe a tailpiece cover on the back at the clasp. Naw, I'm keeping it original...

Can't believe it! My Café hat has an idiot under it too!? What are the chances of that? I'm going to bring the Silverangel. It's the lightest mandolin I have, for toting around. Just put on a new set of Pyramid Medium Flat-wounds. Really improved the high end sound. Always thought it was a little thin on the high end with those EJ75's. Not sure if I'll bring the Summit. That's kind of a heavy instrument to tote with the Weber case I've got that in. Also have a Silverangel hat. That one has an idiot under it too!

It is going to be drop dead gorgeous all weekend. Great day for a festival in Charleston.

Anyone who wants to meet up, lets shoot for 11 a.m. in front of the main (bigger) stage by the back of the lake. I figure we better meet before the beer trucks open.

I know I'll see willkamm there and cant wait to test drive his Silverangel.

I'll have my new MC hat on. Yippie !

This was a great time! Really enjoyed myself. 550 mile drive each way, but it was worth it. A lot of talented musicians. Glad to meet Café' members Daniel Patrick (Daniel Patrick Band) and Astro ( Pinkerton and the Brinks) and hear their bands perform. Daniel gave me a copy of his new CD, "End of the Day" and a "Mandolins and Beer" mandolin case sticker. It is now on the case of my Kentucky, which had no stickers. Really a lot of nice people, and great music. The location, Middleton Place Woodlands, was just about the most picturesque setting, of any festival I have been to. Hope they keep this one going. Both Daniel's band and Astro's band gave great performances.

Fun meetin up with ya, Bill. Fun talkin mando speak to a fellow mando geek.

Chris, if that was you I met briefly at our set on Sat(I'm horrible with names), shoot me a pm if you want to try to jam sometime since you're close by.

For me the best was the midnight "Campfire Jam" Saturday night. The pro players were too good for me to break out the mando which was fine because I like to listen and was too tired to play anyway.

Yeah Daniel Patrick is a rising star here. More from him soon I hope with a new CD coming and a real stent at Telluride this summer.

Yep, that was me. Again, nice set and perfectly 'weird' enough for me. I'm sure we'll have the chance to jam soon.

Didn't get to spend that much time at the fest due to other obligations but hoping it returns to the same venue next year 'cause I'd like to camp out. What little time I did spend was well worth it. This thing could become big!

    Cheers!

BTW, sorry I did not bring the Silverangel the second day. It was just a pain carrying it around on Friday, everywhere I walked too. Never keep it in the car when it is parked. So its always with me at a festival. I wish I'd run into you Friday, when I had it with me.
