Default Odd Craigslist Mandolin (Carved Head)

Too many cracks for me to buy, but I thought it was at least interesting.
I like the carved head on the headstock, although she looks a little drunk.
    I would assume German?

Unlike the seller, I don't see that being worth $2K once it is fixed up. Interesting, though.

I'm not even sure it is worth the $300 he is asking.
I just like instruments with carved heads.
I guess that comes from being a Vassar fan.

Brings to mind Vassar Clements' old fiddle with the carved head...

I think it's pretty neat - If he would take $100 it might be worth it for the novelty value....

The head carving looks more French to me. The body style I am unfamiliar with.

I don't know why but I think this might be longer scale than a standard mandolin, maybe closer to mandola scale.

Looks like a bandola oriental, from Venezuela. I don't know anything European that looks like this.

Cool looking or not, don't even know if it's playable. Perhaps if it was
strung up to tension and was playable someone might make an offer. How can the seller be so
sure of the time period if it has no markings and he says he doesn't even know when or where it's made , yet he knows it's a 2000 mandolin. If I had a mandolin that could be easily repaired and make It go from 300 to 2000, I would do that and make a propfit.
    Its not a backwards guitar.

Could be by the body shape but the bandolas usually have fixed not floating bridges. Could be a hybrid or made by someone in imitation of the bandola.
