Default Old Joe Clark ... sort of

Miles Davis reincarnated as Andy Statman plays Old Joe Clark with the Dawg and Don Stiernberg. It ain't Bluegrass or Old Time but it is amazing.

Any time David Grisman comes to town, I'm there. He just does it all so well. Thanks for posting this video.

Speaking of 'interesting' versions of OJC, here is one I am still trying to wrap my head around. I am not sure where I got this, but I think it was Nigel Gatherer's website.

    Old Joe Clark in 7/8:

    I don't know which sil-LAB-el(s?) gets the em-FASS-is in 7/8.

I did enjoy the video - Old Joe Clark was the first 'real' tune I learned on clawhammer banjo, back in 1962. And there are almost as many ways to play it as there are verses.

Andy is on his own planet. How he comes up with those odd-scale full-accidental light-speed solos is beyond me. No one sounds like him, which makes him that much more fun to listen to. Old Brooklyn is still my landmark mandolin-centric cd.

Well - it was 'different' - i enjoyed it as much for 'watching them enjoy it' as for the actual rendition & yes - Andy Statman is a genius !!!

I couldn't make it to the end. Andy's moaning was too much for me.
