    Default Mandolin Brothers Update

Mandolin Brothers, the legendary (I think that's a fair word) fretted instrument store on Staten Island, will finally be shutting its doors in a couple of weeks. The physical plant will be repurposed and made available for rent, the name has been sold to a dealer based in California (name not disclosed yet) who plans to use it as the name of an online business he is starting up, and here's wishing him all the best.

Everything changes eventually, of course. But even after Stan Jay's passing it was nice to know the store was still there, somehow.

PS - info from a Feb. 20 article by Tracey Porpora of the Staten Island Advance.

In actuality Mandolin Bros. has really been gone since soon after Stan died.

They have been selling off remaining stock of instruments and accessories on eBay. I saw a vintage tenor banjo case I almost bid on.

My last visit with Stan was in April 2014. I am holding the Gibson Distressed Master Model that appeared in the Gibson DMM Press Release.

You could always count on Stan to welcome you like family and for him to share his fine stock of instruments!

Best wishes to the new owner and thanks for carrying the Mandolin Bros. legacy forward!
